The Hinman Building at Georgia Institute of Technology provides flexible and innovative teaching and learning spaces to enable collaboration among students, faculty and staff. The project includes classrooms, learning labs and studios, galleries, as well as academic and administrative offices. Cutting-edge technology is embedded in all spaces and distributed throughout the building to encourage different ways of thinking and learning. This commitment to emergent technologies is reinforced by dedicated computer labs and makerspaces. Our design brings people and disciplines together, fostering unplanned interaction and enabling innovation. Special attention was paid to using reclaimed materials, employing ample day-lighting strategies that provide optimum working conditions, among other energy-efficient techniques. The design provides a creative and disciplined educational environment where students can thrive.
